

If you like the thriller genre of cinema but much prefer to read a book than watch a movie, this book is for you. If you like suspense plots and a plot that has you put on your thinking cap throughout, you will mostly enjoy this. I would recommend this book to you if you’re a fan of the genre of detective, crime, thrillers. Warning: the novel contains descriptions of torture and domestic violence. However, Mackintosh seems like an author with a lot of potential and I am curious to see what she might write in future. It felt as if the novel was tied-up quite conveniently. I was hoping that the central problem in this novel wouldn’t resolve itself…so easily.

The end is left up to the reader’s imagination.

The final pages of this novel were extremely chilling and I felt like the author had more up her sleeve. I would like to see this novel translate onto the big screen. There are a few places in the plot where I felt the evidence presented wasn’t enough to convince me as a reader but in the end, it made for a very entertaining read. At one point I could predict what would happen but I was still keen to see how the author executes this aspect in the story at large. I loved the structure of this novel and how every alternate chapter is narrated by the antagonist himself. I personally enjoyed this book because it had me glued to it until the very end. But after this point, a series of twists and turns occur giving the plot momentum. The first 100 pages aren’t all that action-packed.

The plot starts off slow and takes a while to build up. How does Jenna make peace with her disturbing past? Who is really after Jenna? Will Jacob receive justice for his brutal death on that stormy night? Read I let you go, in order to find out. She must decide to do something about it in order to save herself and her future. Soon, the darkness catches up with Jenna making her new life a living nightmare. However, her past holds secrets that she can’t really run away from. She attempts to start life afresh by relocating a month later. Jenna Grey witnesses this accident and tries to put the whole episode behind her. One dark stormy night, a brutal hit and run accident occurred resulting in the immediate death of 5-year old Jacob Jordan. I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh is a crime thriller whose plot involves a hit-and-run incident that sets the tone for the novel, an antagonist who uses psychological and emotional manipulation, blackmail and a grand finale of court drama. Imagine if you were always running away from something your whole life. Imagine if you never really felt safe or didn’t have any family or anybody to turn to in times of need.
